Simon Digby

Before becoming part-owner of one of Australia’s most respected venues, Simon Digby was one of the pioneers in the Australian techno scene. With his own label and party brand behind him (the internationally renowned Wetmusik), Simon became one of the biggest and most respected DJs in the scene. Today he is more regularly seen helming the decks at Alumbra over the weekend, playing funky house mixed with the occasional deeper groove. Alumbra is one of the most stunning venues in Melbourne. It attracts a stylish yet fun crowd and plays the hottest house music from around the globe.

Even in the techno days, Simon evolved and developed a unique style through his ability to incorporate house grooves with a harder minimal sound. Simon’s reputation and strength for diversity saw him headline raves, clubs and warehouse parties from the early 90’s playing alongside some of the world’s greatest including: Derrick Cater, Armand Van Helden, DJ Sneak, Jeff Mills, Terry Frances, The Advent and Richie Hawtin, just to name a few. He has toured nationally with heavyweights of techno and dance including the likes of Adam Beyer, Christian Smith, CJ Bolland and Recycled Loops – Umek and Valentino.

Simon continues to push the boundaries of several different genres of music – predominately house in more recent years. Contemporary influences include heavyweight house DJs such as Dennis Ferrer, Karizma, DJ Gregory, Jerome Sydenham, Louie Vega, Jamie Lewis and labels such as Defected Records, Sphere, Purple Music, Strictly Rhythm and many more.

Simon’s skills and experiences over the last decade has seen him play gigs at respected international clubs including Zouk (Singapore), Womb (Japan) and Electric Ballroom (Berlin). Several Asian and European tours saw Simon’s profile in the international DJ scene rise and at one point Simon was included as part of the roster of a prestigious European DJ agency Knee Deep. Simon has also played at world exclusive events for companies such as Gucci, Frank Muller across Asia. Locally Simon has performed and every major club and festival over the last decade and has truly been on of the pioneers in the dance music scene in Australia.

As a producer, Simon’s productions went from strength to strength in the late 90’s until recent times, with his releases on Strive (Christian Smith’s label), Bush, Wetmusik, Pornographic, Advanced, Prime Evil and Boo. Simon also worked on remixes and tracks with artists such as: Groove Armada, Umek, Chris McCormack & Jamie Bismire, Valentino Kanzyani, Will E Tell, Steve Robbins, Alpharisc and Ade Fenton to name but a few.
